A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

You are a child waking up alone in the woods without your parents. Can you survive and escape?

Spooky 2D Jam '24 entry. Everything you hear and see was created in the 48 hours of the game jam.

Features:

  • 3 different biomes (if you only encounter the wood biome the next game should have a better distribution as the distribution of biomes is assigned randomly)
  • Gather ressources and craft new weapons
  • Keep track of your hunger meter
  • Find your parents

Controls:

  • You can walk with the left analog stick or the left mouse button
  • Dash with the space key or the B button on your controller
  • Walk around to gather ressources and get everything you need to craft items. Items that can be crafted show a green number under the icon
  • If a number shows as green you can craft an item by pressing the item's number key on your keyboard or by pressing a direction on the dpad (Up: Sword; Right: Axe; Down: Pickaxe; Left: YoYo).
  • Press and hold the right mouse button or A on your controller to destroy trees, boulders or enemies.

Tools used:

  • Programming: Unreal Engine 5.4
  • Music: Musescore 4
  • Sounds: Recorded in Audacity
  • Pixel art: Piskel
  • Additional Art: Gimp2

Install instructions

Windows:

Extract everything to a folder and run the AloneInTheWoods.exe in the AloneInTheWoods\windows folder. You can also add the game to your collection and download it with the itch.io app (https://itch.io/app).

Linux:

Extract the AloneInTheWoods_Linux.tar.gz and run the AloneInTheWoods.sh. Because I cross compiled the Linux version from Windows I can't test if it runs properly.
